Epilogue

The world hardly noticed as the giant alien vessel, piloted by a group of college freshmen, gently set Webb Hall back in its place, and then under the direction of Joe, took off again to parts unknown. 

The Secrets of the Universe says that humans largely tend to ignore or willfully forget those things that, if thought about, might cause them to learn something, or expand their world view. So it was with Milligan.  No one seemed to remember that Webb Hall had ever left. No one seemed to notice that most of the guys attending the college were missing. 

And the group that had taken the trip?   Well…

Joel announced one day that he could no longer stand how liberal the college was and that he would transfer to another college. This caused Micah to consider transfer to a college that actually had a decent computer course, and for Dave to announce that he would transfer to the college that Amy went to.  No one was surprised. 

Ironically, Joel was the only one of the three who did NOT transfer, as his college of choice rejected him.  The Spider still protects Webb Hall.  Micah transferred and dropped out of sight forever.  Dave eventually married Amy.  No one was surprised.

Girdwood stayed on, and eventually became Joel’s roommate.

Wes also stayed on.  One day he was going through cleaning off his hard-drive, when he came across a file entitled “The Secrets of the Universe”.

“Hmm… trash,” Wes muttered, and deleted it.
