Secrets Of The Universe

Quiver
by Joel

I feel you folks deserve an idea of what's going on. I kind of rushed through Chapter 3. Now keep in mind that I am basing this serial-graphic-novel-in-progress on an actual story of about ten chapters. Chapter 3 was pretty short anyway. However I have been adding additional material to the graphic novel each chapter. Not so with three. I wanted that sucker out of the way.

There are several reasons for this. First off, not a lot of plot development happens in Chapter 3. It’s just a lot of standing around and talking. The most that happens is that we meet an alien with a name that consists of four blank spaces. A more overriding reason why I wanted to get through this chapter is that it had to all be in color. That's a lot of work. Worse yet was the fact that the entire chapter they are just standing around in an empty room with Technicolor walls that keep shifting shade. This utter lack of background coupled with an utter lack of action makes the chapter visually boring. I wouldn't be surprised if my readership dropped off.

But all that's over now. And I am taking a break from the Secrets of the Universe graphic novel to present part two of another little graphic novel I started a while back known to all as 'The Quiver Gambit.' In case you missed part one and are dying for back story, I recommend you start reading here: http://www.secretsoftheuniverse.net/archives/040512.html
And, you know, ignore the week of comics that interrupts the storyline due to a scanner malfunction at the time.

I love drawing Quiver. It takes a bit more thought than most other Secrets comics I do, since I am telling a completely original storyline that is mostly action-based and occurs in a video-game version of post apocalyptic Chicago (stop looking at me funny and just read the danged back-story). I shift style in Quiver ever so slightly from my typical comics. It is a bit more realistic than the day-to-day Secrets comic, and a little cartoonier than the Secrets graphic novel. You people have no idea what I am talking about, do you?

I point out the shift in style because you probably wouldn't have noticed it otherwise. Maybe you would. It’s just when I generally talk to people about it, they snort and say 'looks the same to me.' Well... I hope you enjoy anyway. The Duke likes it. And he had a hand in the character design and story.
