Selective Amnesia
Friday, March 21st, 2008 by admiralYou have probably been reading my stand up philosophy long enough to have heard me write, “you control want a population thinks by controlling what it sees.” Not literally, of course. You do not hear my typing. Consider yourself lucky. I control my tongue better than to use the hunt-peck-cuss method of getting my thoughts onto my screen and then yours.
My typing is just so weak that you could not dance to my keystrokes. One of these days I really should learn how to type. Actually, I should learn how to think before I learn how to type. This line of thought puts me so far off course that I am close to losing my train of thought for tonight’s tirade. Almost, that is.
When these United States were first founded, there were only two recognized races in Jamestown: Christian and Heathen. One of the most remarkable points in history that I recently learned is that the colonists in Salem were fighting something that was actually in their community at the time. Did you further know that, prior to the Church of England, England was a Catholic country? The Church of England was founded to remove a denomination from England instead of establishing one. These little things left out of history change the nature of recorded events.
Recently, I learned that the Spanish Crown did not appoint the first inquisitor to the Spanish Inquisition until two years after forcing the Pope to grant the Bull establishing it. The Spanish Inquisition was so bloody that more kids die every year in bike accidents than were executed as false converts to Christianity. There was a valid reason why the Spanish Crown was fighting false converts to Christianity. These false converts were collaborating with a military enemy of Spain. One attack prior to the appointment of the first Inquisitor killed something like three times as many people as the Inquisition killed in nearly 360 years.
The next generation does not know its history past what it is told. A few omissions and a couple of misrepresentations can change the foundation on which the free world is built. How much were we fed that is just as inaccurate? Would we know if the whole body of knowledge more than a century old was the product of utopian writers trying to shape the next century? Does it not make you wonder?
