State of the Universe.
Wednesday, February 6th, 2008 by admiralA few days ago, although time passes much faster at this scale, the President of these United States of America gave his “State of the Union” speech. You may have seen it. If you are like me, then you distinctly recall having missed it. The world did not come to an end because Joel missed a few panels in the comic so why should there be serious consequences to not seeing a President read a speech to television cameras? He would stand a much better chance at getting me away from my stand up philosophy to hear what he had to say if he came out and actually told the people of this nation what is really on his mind.
You do not need a script to tell the truth. Now, the point that I am trying to get at is that it is time for something more important. Joel actually should be typing this out, but he leaves filling this space to me. It is now time for our State of the Universe tirade. Needless to say, this is not a series of scripted talking points.
Joel may well be a better writer than I am. Both of us have had our work read and commented on by the general public. It is clearly true that Joel has been doing a great deal more story writing than I have and his skill shows. Unfortunately, that thief called everyday life has stolen most of Joel’s time so he has not been able to continue his more complex plotlines in the comics. You will also notice that Joel seems incapable of writing simple, one level plots.
Moving to a two publication week has given Joel time to produce better comics with his limited time than he would be able to do if he had to work on three comics a week. Joel is looking for another artist to work with him on professional comic projects. The Western Wheel panels that he was able to show at the comic convention did get him noticed as a writer. Secrets of the Universe is still a small, amateur project; however, this site is getting noticed. Joel is growing as an artist.
On the technical side, Secrets of the Universe has had a recent update. We are looking to integrate the site more completely so that the forum looks like part of the main site. A second section is in the works to showcase the Western Wheel comics. With the transfer of my personal site, I am having to do a complete rewrite of my own software and plan to do a custom modification here. Overall, the state of the Universe is that we are still here.
