Where are the Scabs?

Friday, January 25th, 2008 by admiral

Where are the scabs? There ought to be scabs. As a stand up philosopher, I am something of a writer. I was trained as a writer and have been a technical editor on two Linux programming books. Copyrights mean something to me.

What I am asking about is the lack of non-union writers in Hollywood California. I am not impressed with much of the writing that comes out of Hollywood California these days. My television watching has gone down so much that I can be working on a program for a month and not miss anything. Now that the market is wide open, I wonder why there are no scabs writing. This may be the only chance that some of us have at having our talents discovered.

By that last remark, I am not talking, or writing, about myself. The world has never needed another amateur editorialist. You would think that, with no competition, companies would be rushing to produce something new. There is a fortune to be made if production companies cared about such things. So where are the scabs?

Am I alone in wondering why nobody is competing to fill this void? Writers, at least in Hollywood California, do not have the right to work. You join the union, paying your dues, or you do not work at all. I cannot accept that there is no talent out here that could produce a few hours a week of viewable television. In my travels, I have seen some good writers.

My biggest question is why I am alone in asking this question. Modern television has been an insult to my intelligence and I cannot be alone. There is a larger audience to be reached than any Hollywood production has reached in decades. All it would take is talent in the business world to reach it. So, why is nobody trying?
