Commanding the Vote.

Friday, January 18th, 2008 by Admiral_Coeyman

While working up my stand up philosophy for the day, I was subjected to the same news cycle that you were. The way the story is reported, it seems that some people believe that voting is a sacred rite that should be required of the general population. Why is that? Is it just possible that some people not voting, choosing not to vote, is a good thing? Would you really have a choice if you were forbidden to actually make it?

It is not that I am still pulling for the official candidate of none of the above. Neither am I calling for the disenfranchisement of portions of the general public. Blocking the vote of law abiding, competent citizens who fulfill the duties of citizenship would be against the laws of nature and of nature’s God as much as it would be a violation of the same spirit of justice to grant this privilege of citizenship to people who fail to fulfill the obligations of citizenship. What I am saying is that people who do not care should have the right to not exercise their right to vote. Otherwise, we may end up with representation elected by the flipping of coins.

Maybe it is a good thing that not everybody votes. It shows our electorate that the vast majority of the voters are not satisfied with the choices available. After all, the Soviet Union had elections for the figurehead who would follow the party’s commands. I am happy with the shift in popular opinion away from the politicians that we are told are electable toward people who actually represent residents of the fabled real world. People have too much faith in their government.

Real solutions will not come from a collection of administrators trying to dictate and amend the laws of nature and of nature’s God. The people who do most of the working, living and dying are the people who know what is really going on. Nobody that you can elect will be able to match that skill and understanding. Candidates who run on having all the answers will not resonate with competent voters. Claiming to have all the answers is the surest sign that you do not understand the question.

So, why is it a sin to not vote? We should have a government that is too weak to subjugate us. A government that is strong enough to give you everything that you want is strong enough to take it all away. Faith in government is the greatest danger to government. That being written, sometimes it is more of a sin to vote than to hold your peace.
