Demo-Crazy
Friday, January 11th, 2008 by Admiral_CoeymanWhen I was in high school I did something that only a stand up philosopher would attempt. I mentioned that democracy refers to rule by a voting majority. Everybody gets one vote and the most votes wins. This was an unpopular, however accurate, observation. The rest of the class had an unclear view of what democracy was other than the belief that democracy was something good.
I have come across references to a military manual that listed democracy as mob rule. It took me quite some time to discover exactly what that meant. You will never come across the truth in textbooks these days. The truth is that democracy is not really a good thing. All democracies have ended in despotism.
Ask a class of children to vote on outlawing broccoli. Who would be in favor of revoking the citizenship of anybody who likes broccoli? With nothing to restrain our natural inclinations, rule by the masses is every bit as tyrannical as rule by the elite minority. When the masses realize that they can vote themselves benefits at somebody else’s expense, that is exactly what happens. Democracy allows us to amplify the greed and resentments of our secular nature.
When most people think of a democracy, they point to the American Constitutional Republic. Our Constitutional Republic places limits on what can be voted on and endeavors to restrain the tyrannical impulses of the masses. Even a constitutional republic cannot restrain a population that does not have a fixed, uniform moral center because ink stained parchment has never had the ability to restrain the passions, physical prowess or rebellious nature of real men. Strength comes from the unity of our moral fibers working in concert toward an agreed upon goal. No law can change the nature of reality.
We have come to the point where people worship democracy as a solution to all the world’s problems. Democracy has not and never will solve any problem. No true believer will see that and remain a believer. From the actions of the democracy crazies you would think that you could change the hearts of men by changing the world in which they live. Has Man ever had a problem changing his environment to suit his heart?
