Return of the Kings

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 by admiral

I have been thinking again. If I was not a stand up philosopher, essentially unimportant, that would be a very dangerous thing. Nobody is going to take me seriously, so I can get away with thinking. So what is it that I have been thinking? The world wants to be ruled again by kings.

The conquest of the confederacy by the federation has been reframed in terms of slavery. Actually, the capture of the confederacy by the federation was not the death knell of slavery but it is the reason why slavery will return to the world. Slavery actually never died. You see, a people who can be ruled only by a king, a central authority, is incapable of living outside of slavery. It does not matter if the king is a national patriarch or a band of experts with the assumed responsibility to rule.

Our problem is that we believe in the power of government to do good. We pray to our government who art in D.C. when we should be doing for ourselves. How many King Sauls have there been for every King David? King David, a man after God’s own heart, was not without sin in his life. Do we believe that, contrary to thousands of years of experience, a strong central authority will not be at least as corrupt as history has shown it to be?

We will find ourselves again in chains because we are comfortable in bondage. Our inner darkness wants to survive in eternal childhood. Growing up is dealing with tribulations that a child never sees. If only we could live in the safety of childhood. Why can we not live forever in the shadow of our beloved Big Brother?

As a writer, I have often used slavery as a solution to problems that I was too lazy to address. Ignorance is comfortable. We would sooner live in shades of gray than admit to the depths of blackness of the real world. Kings will return because we have given up on having no king but Christ. Only adults can live with the tribulations of responsibility.
