Ghosting

Monday, July 30th, 2007 by Admiral_Coeyman

Just for fun, what if the current level of ghost activity in the world is the result of trying to deny that any part of the universe which is not acknowledged by orthodox materialism is real? I am not asking if ghosts are trying to get our attention. What I am curious about is if our willingness to disbelieve in ghosts is removing a restraint that has kept us safe for centuries. Suppose that our willingness to accept the existence of a spectral world allowed us to keep it at bay and eliminated its ability to prove its presence to us?

I have not done any calculations about spectral activity levels. This idea came from a potential storyline that I was pondering. More than not getting around to writing the story, I could not come up with enough supporting ideas to write a full story with. Being a stand up philosopher, I still like to play with ideas. My inability to get a story, which I probably would give away on the Internet, does not put the question to rest.

There are people who believe, without question, that disbelieving is the same thing as lacking faith. I hold it as a general rule that every force has a positive and a negative persona. Disbelief is not the opposite of believing but believing the opposite. If a positive force is destructively interfering with a possibility, then a negative force must constructively interfere with that same possibility. Ghosts, whatever they are, could draw their reality from our unwillingness to accept them.

Does anything have to be proven that it not first denied? I have heard it stated that reality is anything that does not disappear when you stop believing in it. Would this not be the ultimate corollary? Reality appears because you disbelieve it. Beyond this, how do you know what exists if you start by denying your eyes the power to see it?

We have, in the past, tried to change reality by wishing it so. People still believe, in contrast to history, that Man is essentially a saint and corrupted by his institutions. Have we now come to a point where we are trying to alter reality with our forceful denial? Could we then be altering reality in a way that counters our feeble attempts to dominate it? The reality may find us as egotistical insects blown about in a windstorm that we call ourselves the owners of.
