Defend Your Heart
Monday, July 23rd, 2007 by admiralI suppose that all stand up philosophers have their areas of focus. My area seems to be tactics. It is not that I am really good at much of anything. I would rather have you go, yourself, to the fountain of knowledge than to give my writings a second thought. Tactics just interests me enough that I spend more than a healthy amount of time thinking about it.
When we think of defense, what comes to mind? Do you think of tanks, missiles, silly string and bombs? How about martial arts and boxing? Defense can include the ability to carry firearms in public places, with the knowledge required to hit your target and do less damage than the threat that you are neutralizing. Some people would rather use non-lethal force and some people would rather call 911 to send the coroner. How free is a free country where stupidity is a crime?
Have you ever considered that it is an important part of defense that the objective survive the fight? In video games, I have learned that the first order of business is to survive long enough to score points and win. The type of defense that I am thinking about is resistence to something that it would be worth your life, or mine, to stop. I do not wish to project the idea that I plan to send you off to fight something that I would not also stand up against. So, what are we forgetting to defend?
In the time that I was born, we sent men off to fight a war. Those men returned home to a nation that was proud to fly the enemy flag. Did anybody think about defending the homeland? In unconventional warfare, the battlefield is a distraction from the fighting. You cannot win a war in which the enemy captures the heart of what you went off to defend. Nobody thinks of that.
Who would have thought that schoolchildren would need to be trained to resist brainwashing? Children are the future in every way that counts so they are the only target actually worth capturing. Have you given your children an understanding of the who and why they are? Unless they can give a defense of the foundations on which they stand, then no other defense will suffice. I feel confident in saying this because, if I were so inclined, then this is where I would attack you.
