I-Fix the Speed of Light
Monday, July 16th, 2007 by Admiral_CoeymanDrawing further on the model of the universe in which there is no angel with a motorbike to pull you over if you violate the laws of the universe, we are left with the possibility of an I-Fix warp drive system. Suppose that the limits of the universe can be violated. How about if the light speed limit is just an engineering problem as the speed of sound was? Maybe you can breach the light speed limit and nothing special will happen to you.
Breaking the light speed limit would not be easy. You would have to deal with the stresses on your craft and the fact that the photons of light would be unable to strike your craft and make it visible. Time may even reverse so that you appear to all the universe to be moving backwards at a sublight velocity. Would that be a problem? It might be possible.
I-Fix warp drive units do not involve any inter-dimensional manipulation. Your craft will remain in normal space, N-Space, while moving faster than light. Theoretically, this would be possible. As long as the universe can rationalize what you are doing in terms that make sense, and you are willing to deal with the consequences of your actions, then who is to complain? You just arrive at your destination before you left your home port.
Since your communication would have to move at the speed of light, it would not be possible for you to communicate with yourself before you left. Your craft would be moving backwards in time, at a sublight velocity, so the light beams carrying your signal would take longer to reach your starting point than your trip took. Any message that you send would arrive after you started your trip. That would protect time from being tampered with.
I-Fix drive systems are limited to between one and two times the speed of light. You cannot move directly at the speed of light for reasons outlined earlier in this series. Doing so would result in time standing still on the craft and that would prevent you from controlling the craft. With the I-Fix drive system, twice the speed of light would result in your moving backwards through time at the speed of light and having the same problem. Any faster than twice the speed of light in an I-Fix drive craft and you will find yourself doing sublight velocities forward through time. No I-Fix craft can exceed warp one.
