Conspiring by the Light

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007 by Admiral_Coeyman

While doing a little of my stand up philosophy for the week, I came up with an interesting thought. It is not as much a standpoint that I aim to put forth as much as a question. If conspiracies were well kept secrets, then why would we know so much about them? That is not the part that I found interesting enough to write about.

Some people make a good argument against real conspiracies by pointing out how hard it would be to keep a conspiracy secret. So I let my mind wander into dangerous territory and came up with a sideways thought. Conspiracies are not well kept secrets. A conspiracy is a well ridiculed belief. We hear about conspiracies all the time and this has very little effect on the conspiracies themselves.

Does a conspiracy have to be kept secret? Building S4 in area 51 definitely exists. There is no doubt about that. We know that there is a conspiracy going on there because we keep hearing about it all the time. If the conspiracies that we keep hearing about were to be real, then the belief that the conspiracy is being kept secret in any way would be easily dismissed as humorous.

In the event that you wanted to conspire to do anything, then would secrecy profit your plans? Maybe secrecy would not be to your advantage. Anything that cannot be made public would not be made public for the cost that it would impose on anybody who made these secrets public. There are always people out there with a willingness to deny anything. Let these people build up not secrecy but ridicule of the truth and breed an unwillingness to believe.

I am not saying that there is much of anything going on out there. Sometimes rumor is a conspiracy all on its own. What I am writing about is the idea that I might not, in creating a conspiracy, even want to try to keep the conspiracy a secret. Why not use the desire to disbelieve? Consider how far you would get if the people that you are trying to scam were intentionally blind to your actions.
