Eye Chains
Wednesday, June 6th, 2007 by Admiral_CoeymanIn keeping with the conspiracy theme, I have a bit more stand up philosophy for you. I could write a series about this stuff, but I would not want to do that on Joel’s site because of the conflict that it would generate. The only series that I intend to write here, for now, deals with the warp theory rewrite. I’m giving that to Joel in hopes that I can draw in readers for his strip. His paper on my site is still one of the biggest draws so I owe him that much.
So here it is. It is not what you show, but how you show it, that controls how your audience feels about the subject. Most of us do this subconsciously. There is nothing wrong with speaking your mind as long as you are up front about it. You can be free to say whatever you think as long as you are willing to suffer the consequences of your tirade.
With a conspiracy, you do not admit to your feelings. We all have feelings, so there is no truth to neutrality. If you are apathetic, then the viewpoint that you offer supports the view that the subject is unworthy of deeper consideration. People will get this feeling from the way that you write. Commonly, the audience does not notice the prejudices that it picks up in this way.
You would be surprised how easily an audience can be turned either for or against any subject with the correct application of bias and normalization. Show heroism and people will rally to support a cause. Color your report with suffering and people will turn against even themselves. I believe that this is the heart of Critical Theory. Defamation works.
This is part of the campaign that I was planning to run when the Girdy/Herman ticket came up for election to the remaining offices in the land. I’m sure that I can even get Girdy elected as our new governor of Mars. Stay tuned to see Joel has up his sleeves now that I’ve turned the campaign back over to him. Eventually, we’ll even tell Girdy and Herman about this.
