Vermissious Canids
Wednesday, April 25th, 2007 by Admiral_CoeymanBill Maher tricked his way into the Creation Museum in Ohio. The Museum is not supposed to open until May 28 and I would like to see it if I can go on the Church Mission trip this July. Anything that I could say about the museum itself would elicit reactions that would obscure anything further than I have to say. That is why play writers in the Greek Empire came up with the concept of ‘obscenity.’ There are things that you do not show an audience unless you want your audience to overlook anything further that you have to say.
I have covered that ground before and I will cover it again. Right now, the opening sentence of this tirade is meant only to tell you where I started my stand up philosophy for today. Take nothing that I am about to write as a comment on either Bill Maher or the Creation Museum. If two paragraphs of babbling can get you past my opening sentence with a clear mind, I will now begin my actual stand up philosophy.
As we walk by the sunlit beaches of the place that we agree to call ‘reality,’ what if the nuts are right? Suppose that Bigfoot is wearing a business suit and running Wilbur-Market? Is it not just possible that the end is near? Where did I park my flying saucer, anyway? Just suppose that the nuts in the world are the people who are right about the real state of shared existence.
The term ‘nuts’ is not used, here, to imply an assessment of mental competence. More than being unfit to give such a diagnosis, I would be unfit to pass one. What I am referring to is all the people whose ideas we dismiss out of hand without consideration. Most people have real lives and cannot afford the time that I put into thinking about these kinds of things. You are also unlikely to have the time to think about things as the nuts that you cross the street to avoid.
Our eyes tell us that the Earth is flat. Being right has nothing to do with observation. Would you not have to be nuts to say that the Earth is not what our eyes tell us that it is? Think about this while you are stuck in traffic at some point. Are the nuts of the world crazy or are some of them just ahead of their time?
