Let Us Conspire
Monday, March 12th, 2007 by admiralIs there really a conspiracy? Whether you are a stand up philosopher, a cartoonist or a writer, conspiracy theories are good for business. We like being in on the big secret and solving the mystery. Was Barney Beagle framed by the cat next door or is there a larger picture, involving imported squirrels working for a corrupt body shop, at the center of this case?
If there were no conspiracies out there, how long would it take for us to conspire to create one? Some people honestly want to be the hero and save the day. They want to stop the conspiracy from driving up the price of Ice Cream. What would the world be like without penny candy and parking meters?
There are also people who believe that they have the better way that the world has overlooked. For honest reasons, they believe that the world is being kept from invoking their name to bring about world peace and the alignment of planets from one end of the universe to Herman’s nose hairs. Such true believers are the hardest opposition that you could ever have to handle. In fighting them, they believe that you are keeping the world bound in insufferable darkness. The tyranny of good intentions never sleeps.
We are a people who want to conspire and also a people who want to fight the conspiracy. Big Brother was written to repress from love. Was it not also true that Big Brother’s enemies resisted in love? Maybe it is that the two sides cannot communicate openly. Be compassionate to the conspiracy to your own doom.
When I was last invited to conspire, and you did not read that written here by my hand, I saw the rationalization of brutality as an act of kindness. We would all truly be heroic resistors of the conspiracy and also conspirators in our own right. If the conspiracy did not exist, it would be our way to invent it. Now, I command you to forget all about this chatter concerning conspiracies because there is no conspiracy. There is nothing to see here. Move along.
