Other people’s Trash
Monday, March 5th, 2007 by Admiral_CoeymanWhile doing my stand up philosophy for this week, I made an interesting observation. We are all aiming to get ahead. That was even the subject of my Sunday School lesson for today. There is nothing wrong with the drive to advance. Without it, we would be lost in hopeless repetition where getting out of bed in the morning, the simple act of drawing breath, would seem to be a waste of time. Only a machine could deal with such pointlessness.
Have you ever stopped to think about the position that you currently occupy? There is somebody out there who would like to have what you are eager to throw away. Sure, that does mean that there are a lot of sick people out there. Some people are literally sick and you should feel blessed not to be amongst them. It could always be worse and, for somebody else, it already is.
When we strive to do and be better than we are at this point in our lives, let us not forget just how blessed we are in the positions we have already attained. Whatever you are complaining about would mean the world to somebody else out here. There is somebody out here who would take whatever you are going through just to have what you have. Have you ever considered that?
I am not thinking against advancement. My faith commands me to always strive to be better tomorrow than I was yesterday. It is a duty of the soul within me to understand, do better and grow from the place I was in when I was lost. My apostasy from materialism may give me a different view of success and prosperity, but there are things in life that I aim to possess, only some of which are necessities.
My point is that you can be happy with whatever you have. Somebody else wants it even though you may see it as trash. If a man makes you carry a load for one mile, carry it for two. At least you can walk. There is enough darkness in the world without our having to add to it. Still strive to be truly free, run the race to win and invest yourself in everything that you do that you may prosper from the sweat of your brow. Each day, think of the people who do not have the blessings that may seem to be a curse to you.
