Word Up
Monday, January 15th, 2007 by joel There’s this word that everyone in the English-speaking world whips out whenever they want to reveal the depths of their intelligence, and frankly, I am sick of it. Because the fact of the matter is that this particular word is nothing more than a simple root word with a series of prefixes and suffixes that any fool with a sixth grade education could string together effortlessly.
What motivates people to use this word? I suspect it’s a feeling of inferiority. They need the respect and attention that intelligence would bring to them and they think using the one big word they can pronounce is one way to ESTABLISH their intelligence. While it is trendy to seem rebellious, rebellion itself has become a sort of ESTABLISHMENT. The young, cool crowd you try to impress with your negligible vocabulary seeks to overtake the perceived authority of the older generation holding political office and running the corporate world. They are, in essence, a form of DISESTABLISHMENT. Thus defining themselves as DISESTABLISHMENTARIANISTS.
Of course, as Abraham Lincoln was keenly aware, a nation divided against itself cannot stand. It behooves us all to defeat the efforts of those who would seek to overthrow authority, to oppose the rebels, or to uniformly convert to a new authority. In this way we can remain ANTIDISESTABLISHMENTARIANISTS.
Now most forms of rebellion are in controlled environments of polite debate seeking to reform the system from within rather than forcefully overthrow it. Any of these forward thinkers would agree that out and out rebellion is not the way to go, and would proclaim that they are firmly PROANTIDISESTABLISHMENTARIANISTS. But a few rebels refuse to concede the point, remaining PRONONANTIDISESTABLISHMENTARIANISTS. But I think we are safely within a POSTPRONONANTIDISESTABLISHMENTARIANIST era. Sadly, our ancestors had to muddle their way through a PREPOSTPRONONANTIDISESTABLISHMENTARIANST time.
Anyway, I forget the word, but its rubbish.
