The Apocrypha
Monday, November 7th, 2005 by joelWhen the three persons responsible for the creation of Secrets of the Universe reached this point in the story (Chapter Six), it was Girdy’s turn to take the helm. What happened then is something that the next few weeks of comics will only vaguely allude to. The whole truth behind the chapter that we came to refer to as “The Apocrypha has been covered up with time and re-writings so that it may very well never really be shown to its full extent. Trust me, it’s a good thing.
Later on, when we wrote the sequel to Secrets of the Universe, Girdy wrote another Apocrypha. The thought of transforming that sequel, titled “Secrets of Life, into a graphic novel as I have been laboring to do with this one, make me shudder. This is partially because of its great length, and mostly because that story was never finished. But I do not tremble at that thought nearly so much as the thought of touching that second Apocrypha, which is so devoid of content that could be called “story that it actually rivals this first Apocrypha.
So great was my dread of actually touching the Apocrypha, that I sent it, along with a demand by way of E-mail to the Girdster himself. The demand was that he re-write it to be more compatible to graphic novel format. His reply was a terse “I don’t feel like it, followed by the permission to re-work it in whatever way I saw fit. My choices, wrong or right, will be yours to behold as the next few weeks unfold.
The principle problems with the Apocrypha are that it has no real story content, it is filled with obscenities and obscure, inside jokes, and that Girdy spent most of the chapter talking about himself. And NOBODY wants to hear that.
As an encouragement to you, the gentle reader, I would like to mention that we are very close to the end of this little tale of abductions and trials, wherein a few loser college-kids stand as representatives for the entire human race. This is the sixth chapter, and there remain three more after this, all of them fairly short. So hang in there.
