In the Eye of the Beholder

There are robins chirping outside, the music is a beautiful melody written by their creator. There are flowers blooming, the daffodils, crocuses and violets, yet there is only one that signals the true coming of the spring season. It’s the yellow dot of Spring, the first sign has arrived. There it is! This dot creates mixed feelings when it comes. A landowner abhors it, a vegetarian eats it, a child delights in it and a mother receives it as a gift.

The yellow petals are soft and bright. The color, vibrant like a ray of sunshine focused on a specific spot. The softness of the petals are the brush of a lover’s kiss against the cheek. The green stem is strong and flowing with its milky white blood. The even greener leaves are long and jagged at the edges, as if torn in a battle, but still ready to fight. As time goes by the yellow petals fade and disappear leaving behind the silver gray hair puffs that bring more new yellow dots throughout the lawn that they have landed on to live.

This plant is looked on differently by different people, as mentioned before. Landowners despise these yellow drops on their lawns. If a lawn isn’t perfectly groomed, green beyond all compare and free of debris, then it can reflect badly on the owners of the land. They could be condemnable of being lazy. One must not let a “weed be seen anywhere near the vicinity of a lawn.
Yet on a happier note, for a child this “weed, when in its blossom stage is “pretty, and it’s a flower that can be picked without fear of “ruining the flower garden. When this flower makes its way to senior citizen status a child gets to have the fun of blowing the “hairs to make a wish or just to have fun with friends.

Children also like to give gifts and who better to give a flower than your mother. Giving a gift to someone else has its reward of feeling good about one’s self and smiles are some of the best rewards ever given. Moms love receiving the thoughtful little gifts of dandelions from the youthful innocence of their children.

Even while this bloom is a gift from a child for some, it is part of a meal for others. Vegetarians love being able to eat plants grown from the grown. This one is soft, chewy and delicious as it is eaten within a salad.
All of these characteristics are within one little plant. This is how the world goes round, God creates things with many purposes and ideas. Each person then follows what they believe to be right, as they feel God is leading them. This does not mean that any one why to interpret something is correct, but that there are many possibilities. God is God no matter what others think or how they perceive this divine being to be. Whether some say God is male or God is female is up to debate. But in the end God is Lord and we are the sheep in the pasture needing to be guided.
