Parties: What the Heck ARE Those Things?
Friday, July 23rd, 2004 by joelSubtitle: I ask because I have never actually been invited to one.
When I was a child my concept of a ‘Party’ was a series of activities that involved a cake. For me this was reason enough to get excited about a party. Cake is delicious.
But time came when the idea of a party shifted away from cake and more towards activities that largely involved doing things to attract the attention of the opposite sex. Or so I tend to believe. The fact is that I really haven’t been involved in those types of parties to any large degree. But given spurious hints that have drifted my direction, it seems likely to me that the following things are the main ingredients of parties:
1.) Talking
2.) Consummation of Consumables (possibly but not necessarily mood-altering)
3.) Dancing
I can’t say I am really any good at Talking or Dancing, so the only hope I have at a party of this level is that the consumables include cake somehow. I guess the issue is moot, but I still have to wonder, because I recently heard a song about a party. Or I think it was about a party, since the word ‘party’ came up fairly often. At one point the person singing talked about making connections as she entered the room and setting up the scene. I don’t remember the exact wording, but it sounded pretty technical. Like FBI undercover work or something. And there was no mention…
