A Moment to Pause…
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 by joelWell ladies and gents, that last article was pure Girdy. He really does exist, and he really is exactly like the comic character… except for the three spikes of hair. That was an evolutionary fluke of his character, which I care not to explain at this point.
I sincerely doubt that you will see much more of the prose of Girdy on this page. Although he actually reads the page and gives occasional comment (mostly to the tune of ‘check your spelling!’ or ‘the public demands more Girdy comics!’), he is both highly involved in some business regarding teenagers, and notoriously lazy. The combination of the two seems to have sapped him of all time and energy, even if that energy happens to be directed into the business of maligning me publicly.
As for my spelling on the comics, I can say with all sincerity that a quarter century of being harassed over my horrible spelling has hardened me to both criticism and to the idea the perhaps (just perhaps) I should type everything I intend to put into my word bubbles into a word document first, run a spell check, and then transcribe from the screen. I still cling to the fairy-tale-like belief that my spelling is improving and will eventually reach the point where I no longer need the shackles of intelligent friends and spell checkers.
Now, about the messy business of me not posting comics for close to a month: sorry. I did actually run out of supplies (inking pens and formatted boxes to be specific), but a combination of distraction and fatigue prevented me from running out and getting those supplies. I feel the break did me good, though. I am excited once again about the comics, and, glancing over the record of what I have done so far, I am convinced it isn’t such a bad piece of work after all. I also have an idea for a new and convoluted storyline. You’ll like it when it comes, but till then you will have to make due with a series of comics, which don’t really have much of a storyline and were created mostly just to be funny. Try to understand.
The plus side is I will be running more Herman and the Roaches comics. In showing my comics around, Herman and the Roaches tend to be the most popular characters, and I feel I really haven’t done them justice yet, so you will get to see more of them for now.
One last thing I should mention before this tirade comes to an end. I have implemented an emergency backup system. This involves me pulling a bunch of ‘Secrets’ comics in different formats from the archives back when I was playing around with the strip trying to decide how best to approach doing it. I have put these in stock and ready to be posted should I, for some reason, be absent from my duties again. Your entertainment, folks, that is what it is all about.
