Girdy for President

Friday, February 20th, 2004 by joel

The first thing I want you to take careful notice of is that this article is NOT entitled ‘Girdy 2004’. I wrestled with making this the slogan of getting Girdy into office, but decided against it for this one abiding reason that governs all that I do in the creative field: I want everything I do to have a timeless quality. That is to say, I don’t want somebody looking through the archives or the campaign posters on the ‘Neat Stuff’ page and think “Man, I remember 2004. Boy that really takes me back… I want the idea of electing Girdy into office to be current throughout all time. That’s just one of my personal quirks, an idea that governs most of what I write. I don’t use dates or topical references that would date me. I don’t like people to be bogged down in the ‘when’ of what I write. Now that that’s said, lets talk a little about electing Girdy for president.

I actually spoke to Girdy on his possible candidacy, and he told me of a few policies he holds regarding his presidency. He said he would give me a room in the White House and feed me all the hotdogs I could eat in order to continue to create comics about him. So he’s not above bribing people. He told me that he would retract the standard ‘two term’ rule so that he could be in office indefinitely and really ‘do some good.’ He also said he would invade Canada.

Now much as he might want me to be, I am not the best of campaign managers. I am going to try and contact Girdy to write a guest article, which addresses his thoughts on his presidency a little more to the core. I CAN tell you that he has chosen a running mate, you know him as Herman the Cockroach.
