I Had a Thought… What Was it Again?
Wednesday, February 11th, 2004 by joelYou’ll notice Wes is in today’s comic. He comes in and pours his heart out over some political stuff he strongly believes in. Now Wes is a great foil for the comic. He’s everything that we, my target audience, love to poke fun at, love to hate, etc. I just can’t find it in my heart nor in the creative storm which is my mind to bring him into too many comics. First of all, seeing that Wes is a real guy, and sort of what you might call a friend, I don’t like to make him into a laughingstock TOO often. He’s a good sport, but I don’t want to offend him, hurt his feelings, or ruin what I loosely call our friendship. Enough with my heart. I don’t get a whole lot of humorous inspiration off of Wes either. First of all, Wes cares deeply and fervently about things that I care nothing about. I can’t seem to put myself in his shoes long enough to get a good idea how he’s going to approach the situation. With Wes we would be forced to confront issues dealing with Academic competition to gain the highest score/grade/dean’s list/whatever. We’d mull over the political situation of our country with great concern, interest, and malice toward the other party. We’d argue endlessly about the sovereignty of the church verses the state, and how deeply the ritual of Catholicism ties into our spiritual history as people and as a nation.
Now given that my target audience tends to have deep seated convictions over which gaming platforms are good for what, what gaming company makes the best RPG, and whether or not the next Star Wars movie will live up to the legacy set by the original three, a lot of ‘Wes’ comics would lose them very quickly. I think. I’d ask for feedback on that, but I’ve already discovered how pointless it is to do so.
