Chaos, Madness, and Other Tea-Time Topics

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2003 by joel

One of my coworkers made an interesting statement
today.? She essentially compared randomness with madness.? This got me
thinking, I’ve heard the two equated one with another, but are they
necessarily linked?? I believe they may not be.? Lets look at what they
are

Chaos, Randomness, is a state of absolute
irrelevance and disorder.? It’s not even something we can prove exists.?
Lets look at it this way: religion and science have offered us two
possibilities.? Either our universe and all things within it are the
result of random chance or they are the result of careful planning.?
Just like most births.? One way, all things are ordered, planned, and
relevant one to another.? Chaos does not exist, and is just something we
made up to explain how immensely confusing the universe seems.? The
other way EVERYTHING is the result of chaos that has achieved, for a
moment, the illusion of order, and will eventually descend once again
into utter chaos.? In this instance nothing is relevant, order is an
illusion, and so is sanity.? If this is so, than insanity, the
perception that everything is chaotic, nonsensical, and confusing, is
actually the correct way of looking at the universe.

At any rate, true insanity is usually linked to a
specific mental disorder known as schizophrenia.? While schizophrenics
are known to hallucinate, hear voices that aren’t there, and babble on
about things that don’t make sense to us, all these symptoms are linked
to a specific process of mental functioning.? This process seems random
to us, but it isn’t and can be linked together if one takes into account
the complexity of the human brain.? It may be a wrong mental process,
but it is not necessarily a random one.
