john and Games
Friday, November 21st, 2003 by joel????? This weekend, I
fully intend to introduce, for the first time, the game I
single-handedly invented based on the ?Secrets’ series to the Duke of
Darkside.? This is significant for two reasons.? First of all, because
the Duke of Darkside has an entire school of battle (within this game)
devoted to him and his philosophies.? The significant thing is that John
hates games and gaming.?
???????I fully intend to have John play a few
games, feigning interest at first until his disgust becomes to great to
pretend to hide any longer and he ends up flipping the table and
storming out, bent on some fresh dark brooding for which he is long
overdue.? (Author’s Note: If you are reading this, please, please
make a small donation via the barely discernable button to the left
marked ?John Demands Tribute’.? John is currently jobless, and could
reeeally use the help.? It doesn’t have to be a lot.? Just a few bucks
would help.? Thanks).
???????It’s not that John is necessarily BAD at
games.? He’s not fantastic, mind you, but he does pretty well for a
beginner? at least for the first few minutes.? Then he gets frustrated,
and loses his ability to think clearly and act decisively and then he
loses.? The resulting loss leads to frustration, and the bottom line is,
he just doesn’t enjoy playing the game.? And know what?? That’s
PERFECTLY OKAY!? John’s talents lie in areas that have nothing to do
with gaming; such as bringing evil into the world.? The only reason this
is a problem is that everybody else that John knows and grudgingly
spends his time with play games.
???????Once again, don’t get me wrong.? John likes
spending time around people, much as he tries to hide the fact.? But he
hasn’t found a good way to do that yet.? The things he enjoys doing are
talking with the people and? well, yeah, pretty much talking with them.?
I personally won’t let him watch movies with me.? His tastes run the
gamut from disturbing to confusing to frightening.? And he laughs at
stuff, which, without the laugh track are terrifying and with the laugh
track are downright sadistic.??
??????? There was a game that John played once,
sometimes even with other people that I actually think he enjoyed.? I
don’t recall the name of it, but it was played online and it involved a
lot of running around and building up points for various abilities of
your character.? I believe they are known as Role Playing Games.
???????Anyway, yeah, it’s funny to see John play
games.? He usually attacks the gaming material (i.e. Controller, mouse,
game board, dice, etc?) with a fury of wrath that I am glad has not as
yet been directed at me.
