Narratives
Friday, September 5th, 2003 by joel?I have about three ideas rattling around in
my head for these articles.? This is one of them.? I am fairly sure I
haven’t written about this yet.? I am actually too lazy to go back and
check.? But if I can’t remember if I wrote about it, I am fairly sure
none of you will have remembered reading it.? Which makes me wonder if
it’s worth writing about.
I mean, if you are just going to forget what I say
after I say it, why should I bother?? What is wrong with you people,
anyway?? I’m speaking on some important life issues here!? The least you
could do is have the common courtesy to read the few short paragraphs I
work to produce!
If you can’t do that much, get off my website!? And
if you DO read what I write, I’m sorry for insulting you.? Really.? I
only did that because people who don’t read my articles won’t have read
that part, and I am safe saying whatever I like.
Anyway.? The thing I wanted to write about was
narratives, as you may have guessed from my brilliantly thought out and
well placed title up there.? By narratives, I mean a story-telling style
that draws interest and conveys meaning.? As a vehicle for truth, it’s
terrific.? I could tell you a truth, say, that people who are sporadic,
quick, and impulsive tend to be less productive than people who are slow
and methodical in nature.? And you would read the pretty words and nod
and think it all made a whole lot of sense and then wander off and
forget what I said.? OR I could tell you a story about a rabbit that
races a turtle and loses because he was sporadic, quick, and impulsive
and the turtle was slow and determined and the story would stick in your
head and make a difference.
I don’t know why this is, but its always more
effective to tell someone something in story-style than it is to tell
them the same thing outright.?
This is why I have chosen the method I have for
telling the secrets of the universe.?
