The Devolution of Computer Games
Monday, August 25th, 2003 by joelComputer games have changed over the years.?
I don’t expect you’ve noticed, but that is why I am here, to
point these things out.
There are a lot more of them, for one thing.?
I don’t even play all the computer games I end up buying more
than, say, once or twice.? Unless
I really like them.? It’s
sad, really.? These
programmers went to all the trouble to put together a new engine, a
plotline, and smooth game play, and I can’t bring myself to play.
And its not that it’s too hard.? Games are actually getting easier as time goes on.?
I NEVER beat Galaga or Pac-Man or Donkey-Kong.?
I hardly got to the next level in most those games.?
These games may take some doing, but they are beatable.?
Oh, and get this:?
I’ve noticed some graphical improvement.? No, it’s true.? Like,
Pac-Man didn’t even LOOK like a man.?
Now men actually look like men, and women? well?
Which brings me to yet another thought.?
Women have been replacing men as action heroes in games.?
One would naturally assume that more women are playing video
games and the market is providing them with appropriate characters to
play.? But polls seem to
indicate that this is not the case.
So here is my theory for why all this stuff is
happening: Alien Overlords have conquered the earth, and are providing
new gaming technologies to subjugate the most intelligent human beings
by slowly replacing reality with video games.?
It’s only reasonable.
